Biography
Sid cooper was born, grew up and was educated in London.
At age 16 or 17, he joined Leytonstone and Wanstead Jewish Youth Club, subsequently becoming chairman and continuing as chairman when the club affiliated with Maccabi Union.
He later moved to the youth movement, Habonim and it was there that he met and lost his heart to Rina whom he married a few years later, when they were both 21. At 2 year intervals, they brought into the world, 2 sons and 2 daughters.
It was with his own children, that he began to acquire the art of teaching as he tried to penetrate their minds to overcome and solve any learning difficulties.
He sat the exam and passed to become a member of MENSA.
He became chairman of his children's Primary School Parents' Association and then founder chairman of the parents' association of Wells Primary School to which his children relocated.
He was heavily involved in voluntary community work for some years, becoming chairman of a number of organisations, finally as national chairman of the British Aliya Movement before emigrating to Israel in 1983.
In Israel, he and Rina settled in the Sharon area and he was elected chairman of Ra'anana branch of H.O.B. (British Immigrants Association) and later Secretary of the National Executive of H.O.B.
In about 1996 or '97, he retired from business but after an active life, felt the need for further activity and began teaching English privately. It was then that a parent of one of his students asked him to teach at his son's school. He was interviewed by the headmistress and the parents' committee and engaged to teach English speaking children and has continued teaching at schools as well as privately since that time.
He has written all his grammar and exercise material as well as stories for his students. Many of those students liked the stories enough to press him to publish them and so, eventually, that is what he did. So far, he has published: Robert the robot Stories The House in the Wood - Sarah A Shot in the Dark
Awaiting publication is Escape and other stories are in the pipeline.
Sid cooper lives in Hod Hasharon in Israel. He continues to teach both privately and at Hamagen Primary School.
